Improving

Well I can move better but I still don’t bend or stretch easily. In terms of studio work this means I can stand at the drawing table and scribble, if I don’t over reach, and I can use the computer.

The materials and bits for the medieval book are stacked on the side waiting. I refuse to put them away otherwise they’ll get sidetracked and I’m determined to finish it.

In the meantime I’ve scanned the completed pages for the literature and games sections of the book, arranged them into layout order and saved them as a pdf (the nearest I could get to actually making a book). If you would like to see them please click on the image (they are at the bottom of the page)

I’m also having to rethink my contribution to the CollaborativeArtists' Books book swop #14(Nature). I was going to make multi coloured offset prints from a single collagraph plate but the roller at HBP I need for the this size of  book is rather large so I think it will be too heavy and too much of a stretch for now.

I’m considering snails instead at the moment.

  1. I missed your last post at the time, so am very sorry to hear your troubles. Having ME, This kind of experience is quite familiar to me and I know how frustrating it feels. I congratulate you on taking the positive from the situation - the book will be the best it can be, made in its own time rather than to a deadline. This is always a comfort to me, and Inhope it will be to you too. Take care!

    1. Thanks for the sympathy.I feel a bit of a fraud. This was entirely self inflicted - I should have slowed down when it first started aching rather than taking painkillers and trying to ignore it. But an enforced month off giving me time to think through how to finish this properly rather than just diving in and working it out as I go may actually end in a better book.

  2. Jac, your last post didn't get sent to my reading list for some unknown reason so I am playing catch up here. So sorry to hear about your back troubles. I moan with a little bit of sciatica but your pain sounds full of immobility and anguish. It must be disappointing not to proceed with your plans but I love the positivity. Good for you. I'm a great believer in fate and taking the best out of things (even sciatica!) Hope you are soon feeling much better and agree you should not be picking up heavy rollers and leaning across print tables or rolling plates through presses!!! Take care.

    1. It was self inflicted, I should have taken more care when it first started off. I'm just focusing on getting to HBP for a workshop on Saturday (I booked it months ago). I might not be able to print but I'll be able to watch and take notes
